The countdown is on, and things are starting to get real. How are there only 3 weeks left before Boston?!
It was another busy week (I have one more busy week, and then some “down” time before the race). I was on my feet a lot but still managed to knock-out some decent-to-good workouts.
Mileage: 60
Monday {easy 5} – I ran 5 easy miles with my fun run group. Some of the ladies had just raced the Rock N Roll DC half-marathon, so it was fun to hear race stories and PR’s!
Tuesday {track} – I felt really strong on the track, and ran every interval faster than (the same workout) 2 weeks ago. We had interesting weather – thunder, lightning, torrential downpour, and sun.
1.5 mile warm-up, 1 x 1600m, 2 x 1200m, 2 x 800m, 2 x 400m, 2.5 mile-cool down
1 x 1600m – 6:17
2 x 1200m – 4:40, 4:38
2 x 800m – 2:58, 3:00
2 x 400m – 1:19, 1:17
Tuesday Night {3 miles} The Brooks Cavalcade of Curiosities was in Annapolis. I spent the afternoon analyzing gaits, and then decided to lead the fun run. It was such a nice night and I love running through downtown Annapolis.
Wednesday {5 miles} – 5 easy miles is a great way to start out the day! It was a really nice morning. I also spent 30 minutes in the gym working arms, core, and glutes.
Thursday {rest day} – Finally, a day off!
Friday {tempo run} – I felt okay during this run. I’ve said it before, but tempo runs on the track aren’t my favorite. I decided to go for 4 miles (plus 1.5 mile warm-up and 2.5 mile cool-down).
Saturday {9 miles} – This year the Cherry Blossoms bloomed about 3 weeks early and I knew if I didn’t go see them soon, I’d miss them for the year. I talked BJ into running down & around the Tidal Basin (he’s a creature of habit and doesn’t like mixing up the run). Even though it was really rainy and crowded, we had so much fun. Plus, the miles seemed to pass by. It was a great way to see the Cherry Blossoms (and an awesome afternoon run with my hubs).
Sunday {21 miles} – My LAST 20+ miler (cue excitement)! I wasn’t sure what to expect – the weather was supposed to be terrible and I was putting a lot of pressure on the “last 20+ miler before Boston”. I’m happy to report that I felt better than I had expected. Exactly one month later, I’m (getting) faster than when I previously ran the same workout (I’m hoping that speed extends through April 16, 2012)

{check out Jessica’s post about yesterday’s long run. She totally rocked it, and ran her highest mileage week to-date (67 miles!). She’s going to #rocktherun in Boston!}
12 down, 3 weeks to go!

WOW! What a great week of running!! Your side-by-side comparison of the last 7 miles is so amazing – you kicked butt with those negative splits!! Congrats =)
Thanks! I’m getting so excited 🙂
sooo awesome! it is amazing to see those two runs side by side like that. what a big difference! i’m so excited for you – i know you’re going to have an amazing time in boston!! xxoo
holy cow you are fast!!! I’m approaching my 20 miler in a few weeks and I am soo beyond nervous. Great job on your miles girl!
Wow! Way to knock out a great 21 miler! Your side by side comparison of your splits is amazing. It’s incredibly how much you improved in one month.
looking strong, awesome long run splits!
🙂
Nice training! Thats a speedy track session!
Those are some great splits at the end of your run. Sounds like just the 20 miler you needed before starting to taper!
Very nice week, and long run!
Wow!! What a great week you had! I just started reading your blog, and really enjoy it – I am running Gansett marathon that same weekend as Boston and find myself reading this post slightly envious of that amazing 21 miler you just had! I have just gotten shin splints 3 weeks out and had to skip my last long run this weekend:( I can only imagine how excited you are – you are going to do AMAZING in Boston. I’m very curious what your goal time is, because it seems like you are very capable of running a very fast marathon. Good luck to you!
Thanks!! How are you feeling about Gansett? My goal is 3:20, yours? I’m not sure what to expect – Boston is marathon #2, so I don’t really know what to expect. I’m feeling good and I hope things come together on race day!
I am so excited for you… As I told you I have alway read your blog but was so moved by how kind, friendly and real you were in person (so glad I came up to/stalked you ..haha) . I appreciate and respect all of your hard work, how you have improved your times and, that you have done all of this while holding down a very demanding job. I have so much empathy for how much effort that takes. Really looking forward to cheering you on Boston morning to see all of that hard work pay off.. makes my eyes water thinking about it. xo
Great week, look at that long run finish!
Congrats on finishing your last long run of this training cycle! That must feel good – time to taper! Your times are so speedy and you are going to dominate Boston!
