So, I have a triathlon this weekend. The New Jersey State Triathlon. Triathlon #3 of the season.
I have been training like crazy. More 2-a-days than I can remember. Adding more mileage to my runs. Tacks workouts. Brick workouts. Plyometrics workouts. Trying to tone with weights. Losing a couple of lbs.
Until this week. The seemingly most important week before the triathlon.
I’m minutely frustrated. Nothing seemed to go right this week and I had something to do everyday after work.
On Monday, I had to babysit. Fortunately, they were home earlier than expected and I was able to squeeze a quick* run in.
On Tuesday, I had plans to workout after work but before I had to volunteer at the local women’s shelter. Instead, I had to work later than usual and missed my workout.
On Wednesday, I had a quarterly volunteer training I had to attend. From 6 – 9pm. I knew that there was no way I would be able to workout after work so I woke up early and ran. 30 minutes.
Tonight I have a work happy hour. I don’t have to attend but I have to attend (if you know what I mean). I’m new to the company and attending is always good PR. I tried to get up early and swim but my alarm didn’t go off (I accidently set it for PM). I guess I’ll have 1 beer and then attempt to run…
On Friday, I’ll attempt to bike. On Saturday, I’ll attempt to swim before we leave for NJ.
I don’t feel like I trained enough this week (and that’s not a good feeling). I need a sanity check from my fellow runners and triathletes, I’ll be okay on Sunday, right?
*I’m not joking – it was like, 15 minutes.
It's so difficult when life gets in the way of training. I was thinking of this yesterday, how for most people, their training gets in the way of life, but serious racers like yourself, it can be the other way around… or am I being completely crazy?
I know that you will be SUPER AWESOME on Sunday. Just think of this week as a taper or something. I know all those 2-a-day workouts and all your plyometric work will pay off this weekend! I have absolutely no doubt in my mind 🙂
You'll do great! You've been training hard up till this week and I think it's time to your body a rest anywho!
Its no fun when life gets in the way. But you seem super confident. Don't let this week get you down. Maybe it was good for you to 'rest' up before the big race. You will probably blow your previous time out of the water!!! Stay positive i'm SURE all your hard work will pay off!!!!! 🙂 GOOD LUCK
You are one busy girl! Good luck with the rest of your training.
Ugh, I hate having plans during the week. It makes it SO hard to fit in the workouts. Sounds like you did alright!
The most important thing about this last week is RESTING and giving your body some time to recover a little so you're fresh for the big race. Don't sweat it. If anything, you might be better off missing a workout here and there.
GOOD LUCK!
You will be fine!! 1 week of less than normal training won't throw you off! Think of it as a taper:)
You're tapering, you just aren't trying to!
Just know all of the hard work that you've put in for the bulk of training, and that is what is going to get you through the race successfully. You've done the work, and any last minute misses are going to be ok – it's a taper! 🙂
Uh, call me crazy but aren't you supposed to TAPER the week before. Chill girl, your going to kick ass this weekend and you'll have your crazy busy schedule to thank. You would probably have overtrined otherwise.
You've put in the workouts already. Nothing you do at this point will significantly change your performance. Go kick ass!
GOOD LUCK! Trust in your training, you will rock it!
Can't wait to see the pics!
Just change your outlook and call it tapering! You'll be fine – you'll rock this tri!!!
You've been training so diligently that a few missed workouts here and there won't make that much of a difference. You're going to be awesome in your Tri. I just know it. So don't fret over what you can't really control and show off your awesomeness for the rest of the tri world to see. I wish I could be in attendance =)
Don't stress about it! You've been wroking hard – you'll totally rock out race!!
You'll be fabulous!! Have fun, enjoy yourself, and go fast!
Just happened upon your blog..I live where the race is taking place on Sunday and rode the sprint bike course the other day (actually I typically ride most of this course anyway since it's on my training grounds) but from the sounds of it, you'll be just fine! The course isn't bad at all, and you can just chalk it up to this being your taper week! You've got a good foundation, and that's what you need.
Good luck on your tri. make those miles pay off!
I am sure your body appreciated the rest even if it didnt feel like it! Good luck with the tri…I am sure you will do great!
