running updates: 29 weeks

Wait, it’s already the third trimester?! When did that happen?

This pregnancy has flown by. I wish I could say the same thing about the winter. Unfortunately the winter has taken a toll on my running. Between snow, ice, and below freezing temperatures (+ double digit wind mph) it’s been tough for Mr President and me to hit the trails.

Thanks to my BOB weather shield, I’m comfortable running with LJ when temperatures are 30 degrees or higher (and even then, he’s completely bundled up). I try to make our runs fun with signing & talking, plus we run on the trail where there’s lots to see (metro, bikes, runners, dogs). It’s about as good as it gets for winter running.

Workouts at 29 weeks
Sunday
: 3 mile run with stroller +BJ, plus it was 45 degrees!
Monday: basement workout, including TRX, weights, and plyometrics
Tuesday: 2 x 1.5 miles, ran to/from library for story hour (with stroller)
Wednesday: 3 miles (with stroller)
Thursday: off
Friday: basement workout, TRX

This is my best + most productive week in awhile! The last couple of weeks have been plagued by the stomach bug, below freezing temperatures, and a husband that was gone for 10 days. Thanks to something new called sleep and slightly warmer temperatures (read: just barely above freezing), I feel good!

Do you run outside In the winter? What are some of your favorite home workouts?

  1. We also bought a windshield for the stroller, but haven;t been outside in a few weeks. First it was way too cold and then we were sick. I’m hoping we can go out this afternoon after Zoe wakes up. It’s nice today, yeah!! You are my hero for running with a stroller in your third trimester! Amazing!

  2. Come back to California! We’ll provide you with awesome running conditions 🙂

  3. You go lady! This winter has been brutal for running. It definitely didn’t help that I was sidelined by morning sickness almost all of January and then the freezing cold in February didn’t help matters. Thankfully, I was able to get in 10 miles on Saturday by doing laps in my neighborhood. Not the most exciting run, but both of my favorite trails were still snow and ice covered and I have a really overprotective husband who is constantly worried about me falling. I can’t blame him though! I feel terribly undertrained for the Shamrock Half Marathon and then I keep reminding myself, “you’re pregnant, you’re not racing, and if you have to walk just walk and have a fun time!”

I can’t wait for the lamb part of March where the weather is nice and I can get out with more regularity. I hope to keep running into my third trimester! You’re an inspiration!

  4. We have a treadmill but I prefer to run outside and I’ll do it in pretty much any temperature. I draw the line when it’s in the negatives and there is wind…that’s usually my limit.
I don’t have the wind/rain cover for our double BOB, but we did a few runs when it was the fall. At this point though I don’t think I’d want to run and push the two of them…haha! I do need to find a triple though…

    • Let me know when you find a triple stroller 🙂 God willing, I’ll need a triple one day too. I recently saw this cool contraption that fits on the double BB but allows for 3 kids. It was awesome!

You are an AWESOME mother runner. Love all your pics on IG of you braving it in the cold!

  5. Great week of workouts and awesome job of running at 29 weeks! I love the run outside in the winter but we haven’t had too many stroller-favorable days lately. If it’s 30 degrees (F) above, I’m usually game for taking out the stroller with the weather shield on it. Lately it’s been too cold here so I’m on the treadmill. The treadmill is actually growing on me because the bathroom is SO close for preggo bathroom breaks! Stripping down in running tights and all the winter running layers is so tricky… and easy to get caught, too 🙂

Some of my favorite at-home workouts are at Ctollerun.com and Gina Allioti’s facebook page! Both have great videos for strength training circuits. Strength training has been so helpful this pregnancy!

    • Thanks for sharing! I’ve never loved the treadmill but easy access to a bathroom would be worth it, haha 🙂 Thanks for sharing your other workouts – will check those out!
