{one week later}

It’s one week, post Boston, and I’m feeling good.  A {huge} thank you for all of your comments, kind words, encouragement and support.  Like I mentioned in my Boston Marathon {recap}, I know I was being ridiculous but I needed to write those words – and I appreciate you letting me vent!  After I went on my 1st post-race run, my whole mood changed.  Thankfully, I’m in a much better place (it’s amazing how running can do that) – and given the circumstances, I’m happy and proud of my performance on April 16, 2012.  I never (and I mean, never) thought I’d be saying this, but I can’t wait for my next 26.2

will run for margaritas

In the meantime, I’m taking the summer to focus on shorter distances and speed work.  5:30 mile, anyone?!

Do you have a favorite 5k, 10k or 10 miler?  Send me your race suggestions (preferably in the vicinity of DC/MD/VA)! {i’m open to distances up-to 10 miles}

*Don’t forget to enter my Marathon Must-Haves {giveaway} – it ends this week, and you don’t want to miss it!

  1. Loved your comment about saying you can’t wait for your next 26.2! I remember after my first marathon I said I would never run another one again. Then I signed up for Boston because everyone told me that I had to run Boston since I got a BQ. Ran Boston and said I would never run another marathon again. Actually I didn’t run for 9 months after my Boston Marathon! Then last January I got the the bug again and signed up for CIM. The day after CIM I was so mad at myself I signed up for Eugene. My mom said, “remember when you said you would never run a marathon again?” Yep, I remember that! 🙂

  2. I missed your recap the first time around!!! I was on vacation! It was such a brutal day for everyone! A friend of mine was rushed to the hospital just a few hours after. It was her 10th marathon! You did awesome!!!

  3. I’m hoping I”ll get to race in DC some this year. Glad you’re feeling better! That first run after a big race always makes me feel good too. You can remember the joy of running again.

    My latest mistake was not taking enough time off after Ironman. It leaves you very overtrained. Get some rest! Now i’ve been fighting foot problems in both feet. quite frustrating.

  4. Good attitude adjustment! We were all disappointed, but i think it’s so key to focus on the positives of the experience. And they were there, regardless of our finishing times!

    So–a couple of good 10-milers: June has Balt. 10-miler. Tough course but great race organization. And have you ever run Annapolis? My sentimental favorite. I believe registration opens May 1.

  5. isn’t that crazy how just writing it down and getting it out there helps so much? another reason i love blogging!

  6. You are so amazing. Your resilience is as beautiful as your lovely, smiling face. I think that 5:30 mile will be here by the 4th of July 🙂

  7. I know the last Hot Chocolate race in DC was a mess but I really like the 15K distance. It is challenging but a great distance to run HARD within reasonable limits without needing on course fuel, etc. I think that’s my favorite distance.

    Good luck and glad your head is back in the game. I know that training for such a long time for a less than ideal outocme is disappointing. Our last 2 Chicago Marathons have been over 80 degrees and its not fun and not conducive to good runnning. In the end, I’m a runner, not a marathoner, not a 5K runner, just a runner and that’s why I keep at it…..regardless of the time at the finish line. :o)

  8. Boston will do that to you (tears). I know that feeling very well, I’ve had more disappointing marathon weather, than good, but we keep moving and looking forward. I love that you will be running another marathon. it happens….. I just “wanted to do 1 , to say that I finished a marathon.” this past Sat., I finished # 24. 🙂

    What about the RC Cola & Moon Pie 10 miler in Bell Buckle, TN June 16th. Maybe Kelly can meet you there and run it too. Check it out!

  9. Glad you’re feeling good! You tricked me with your link to your next marathon!!! Which one is it going to be???

    • ha, sorry for the trick 🙂 I haven’t decided yet but it probably won’t be until 2013 – maybe Chicago?? Do you have a favorite?
