What is nuun?

In the last month, a few a lot of my posts have been nuun-related.  Not only am I super excited about running Hood to Coast on Team nuun, I’m also in love with the product {strawberry lemonade  lemon tea & citrus fruit to be exact}. But, as I spread the nuun-love, I’m surprised at how many people don’t know about nuun.

nuun was featured in an overview of {up and coming products} at the Outdoor Retailer event this past week in Salt Lake (what I would do to get an invite to OR).  Check out this (short) video to learn more about nuun:

Picky Bars for Picky Eaters {Giveaway}

I first learned about Picky Bars through Oiselle, a company that I {totally} love. Wanting to know more about this {intriguing} company, I went to their website and soon realized that I would be a Picky Bars lover, too.

I’m a picky eater {my stomach pretty much hates me}. I have to be extra careful about what I eat and drink on race day. One mishap, and I’m throwing up. (need proof? you can read about some of my mishaps here and here)

Picky Bars are gluten and dairy free energy bars created by endurance athletes. When creating, Lauren wanted a 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio, slow releasing carbs for level blood sugar, minimal soy content, and healthy fats making up 25% of the calories. Oh, and it needed to taste amazing.

If you think Picky Bars sounds technical, you’re right! Thankfully, owners Lauren & Steph had some free time on their hands…

My husband travels a lot for work and is often caught in between meetings without a snack. Before he left last week, I slipped 2 Picky Bars into his bag with a note that read: “try these, and let me know what you think” (I had already tried “Lauren’s Mega Nuts – and loved it)

After eating a Picky bar, BJ left me a voicemail that pretty much sums up everything I wanted to say about Picky Bars:

I just had a Picky Bar. You saved the day with that. Let me tell you, it hit the spot. So thankful that you gave it to me. It was DELICIOUS. Just what I needed before I take a run in the park.

{I couldn’t have said it any better (thanks, BJ)}

PHENOM Coconut Water & Recovery Drink {Review}

When I was contacted by GNC to review PHENOM Coconut Water & Recovery Drink, I couldn’t say “yes” fast enough. I’m a life-long coconut lover and totally jumped on the bandwagon when coconut water became “the latest craze”. I can neither confirm nor deny, but I may have become obsessed with drinking coconut water while marathon training. I love the taste (read: delicious) and I know the coconut water is rehydrating my {defeated} body.

Dubbed “nature’s sport drink”, coconut water is fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie, super-hydrating, and naturally rich in electrolytes – no wonder celebrities and athlete’s have replaced their Gatorade and Acai for coconut water.

{Benefits of Drinking Coconut Water}: PHENOM Coconut Water is the only coconut water fortified with GNC vitamins and minerals. This 100% natural coconut water, supercharged with GNC vitamins and electrolytes, is an excellent source of hydration with zero fat, added sugar, or cholesterol.

I decided to try the following flavors: Pure, Orange Guava Passion, and Acai Peach. I wanted to compare Pure (“regular-flavored” coconut water) to others on the market, most specifically Vita Coco and O.N.E. And as for the other two flavors? Well, they just sounded good.

{Pure} Can’t go wrong with Pure – it was very good and tasted as predicted. I wasn’t expecting fireworks, considering that Pure is supposed to taste like a “sticking a straw into a coconut and drinking” – and I’ve already tried and enjoy Vita and O.N.E. – but I liked knowing that there were premium multivitamins to support overall health/well being and extra electrolytes for the rapid replenishment.

{Orange Guava Passion} The house favorite. OGP was delicious! Even BJ liked this flavor and he is a self-proclaimed coconut water “hater”. OGP wasn’t too over-powering and had the perfect balance of coconut water infused with OGP.

{Acai Peach} House divided on Acai Peach – BJ really liked it, I didn’t like it at all. The flavors didn’t mesh and it tasted all wrong. I gave the rest to BJ….

Overall, I think PHENOM is a great product and I plan to purchase Pure and Orange Guava Passion in the future. I drank Pure after my triathlon (on May 23) and felt great shortly after – but most importantly, I felt great the next day!

PHENOM Coconut Water can be purchased at your local GNC or online.

inVigorators Compression Socks: Review

I’m not joking when I say that I begged inVigorators to send me a pair of their patented graduated medical-grade compression socks. I was in the middle of a very busy race season, had 4 races in 4 weekends and my legs were feeling the torture. Compression-everything was gaining popularity and I wanted to be one of the cool kids, too. After hundreds of tweets @inVigorators I finally won a pair of socks. 3 words: inVigorators are awesome! They fit really well (note: they come in “Tall” sizes) and while they are tight, they are not restrictive. Not only are these socks super comfortable but they improve my circulation and make my legs feel great.

I tested these socks for the month of September – I pretty much lived in my compression socks for 4 weeks straight. I wore them at home, after a long run and around town (I am a proud wearer). Like I mentioned before, I could tell that some-sort-of-compression was going on but I never felt uncomfortable. My experience was always the same: my legs felt great. I wore the socks a days before each race and slept in them the night before [every race]. Four weeks later, I still felt as strong, if not stronger, at Race #1 as I did at Race #4 (I had major PR’s at all 4 races). inVigorators – yes I will!

Let’s just say that BJ is totally jealous and can’t wait to score a pair, too.

I definitely recommend inVigorators – you can buy them from Amazon and are totally worth the $25! You may want to follow inVigorators on Twitter and Facebook for a random chance to win a pair.
